Sustainable aviation fuel is the aviation industry’s most immediate lever for cutting emissions, because it works with the engines and airports we already have. Made from waste oils, agricultural residues, or captured carbon, it can slot into existing fuel systems with little modification.
The obstacle is supply. Production remains tiny relative to demand, and costs sit well above conventional jet fuel. Scaling requires feedstock, refineries, and policy support arriving together.
